Fitzgerald criticises Newman Government’s “anti-bikie” crusade
In an interview with The Weekend Australian Magazine, Mr Fitzgerald has described those whom the government has said the laws are for as “abominable”, “abhorrent”, “cowardly” and “despicable”.
He says int the interview that politicians do not have a mandate to give effect to “prejudices and ill-informed opinions” and attack fundamental rights such as personal freedom or institutions like the judiciary.
Mr Fitzgerald goes on to say that it is “extremely arrogant and socially destructive” for the government to attack people who disagree with them and “incomprehensible” for any “rational Queenslander” who is aware of the state’s recent history to allow politicians to interfere with the administration of criminal justice.
