Lil WayneTha Carter IV
Young Money/ Cash Money / Universal

- Tha Carter IV has quite possibly been my most anticipated release since Lil Wayne's undeniably tasty opus Tha Carter III came our way just three years ago - yeah that may not seem so long in the scheme of things - but being as rap years are very much akin to dog years, three years in the rap game, yeah that's 200 human years: a really frickin' long time. The album has seen several major delays in release, the most substantial being the 8 months that Wayne spent in jail for criminal possession of a weapon, which is kinda like locking up Willie Nelson for doobin' it in public: just plain cruel. Regardless of these false-starts, Weezy F Baby has still been getting a steady flow of material pumped out there, including a Billboard #1 EP-turned album of apparent Carter IV offcuts, I Am Not Human Being; a critically slammed, but ultimately strangely satisfying rap-rock album, Rebirth; a recent mix-tape, the aptly titled: Sorry 4 The Wait, as well as dropping approx 1 million guest verses. In a way it's kinda amazing he found time to get this album out at all. First impressions of the album are that Wayne, perhaps, might be taking his foot off the gas just a little bit - the record is rock solid, if not the home run that many fans have come to expect. - If it falls slightly short overall, the highs are still dizzying and once the initial shock wears off, the people will be pumping out these jamskies for some time to come. For some unknown, hopefully perfectly reasonable reason, all my favourite Lil Wayne cuts seems to be the much darker tracks and this one, President Carter is no damn different.
